Earthquake is a disaster that we don’t know when wil happen. Like was happening in Yogyakarta on 27 May 2006. Many people living in refugee for several day, caused their houses was damaged. The refugees are lack of food. From there ten many people who want to donate something for refugees. In Yogyakarta also available nongovernmental organizations that will be accommodate and distribute donations from donators.
In this topic, mathematics can be applied to find out how many ways that donations can be distributed from donators to recipients.
The Problem:
- If “A” is a donator. “F” is a recipient and “B, C, D, and E” are the distributors. If “A” want to contribute to “F” through “B, C, D, and E” there are 4 ways. In mathematics can be solve by calculating 1 x 4 x 1 = 4. Look the following scheme.
- If “A” want to contribute to “F” through “B, C, D, and E” and then through “G, H, and I” so with same way we can find out many ways to “F”. So we can calculate with 1 x 4 x 3 x 1 = 12 ways.
- If the donator isn’t only one, example “A and J”. “A and J” want to contribute to “F” through “B, C, D, and E” then through “G, H, and I”
So we can calculating 2 x 4 x 3 x 1 = 24 ways.
Based on explanations above, we could then simplify the calculation of multiplication principle by using the following formula:
“Number of donators x Number of distributors level 1 x ...... x Number of distributors level N x Number of recipients”
